History of Grama Panchayat
Alakode Grama Panchayat, established in 1968 in Kannur district, is a hilly region spread across 70.77 sq. km with a population of 34,878 and a literacy rate of 94%. Originally part of Thadikkadavu Panchayat, it later underwent administrative divisions that formed Chapparapadavu and Udayagiri Panchayats. Agriculture is the backbone of the local economy, with crops such as rubber, coconut, pepper, ginger, and banana widely cultivated in its highland terrain. The Panchayat is enriched with natural resources including rivers, ponds, and lush green hills like Kappimala and Moonnamkunnu, while roads, bridges, and public facilities support transportation and development.
